About Tancho

Tancho Japanese Restaurant offers mainly sushi omakase menu. In Japanese, the word “omakase” means “trust the chef”; omakase menu is a set tasting menu (with fixed price) created with guest’s complete trust in the chef’s skills and selection; while the Chef will faithfully prepare the ingredients and execute his skills to serve his/her guests the best available of the season.

Our culinary and management teams are committed to bringing you a memorable dining experience in our relaxing and elegant environment. To enhance your enjoyment of sushi, we have an extensive selection of sakes, wines, and beers hand-picked by our sake and wine sommelier.

We use only high quality fishes at Tancho, many of which are from Japan. We make every endeavor to ensure the best taste in your sushi.

As most sushi connoisseurs agree, sushi rice (known as “shari” in Japanese, a vinegared rice) is the soul of sushi (nigiris). The warm vinegared rice brings out the flavor of fish; combining with the fish fat and texture, a masterly made nigiris will attain and expand its superior taste in your mouth. Our vinegars and rice are both high quality products from Japan. You will notice the distinction of quality and taste in our food.

Our Story

Tancho Japanese Restaurant was born with support of many sushi enthusiasts and dedicated sushi chefs. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who have been supporting us in this restaurant project during the pandemic. We overcame many hurdles and hardships; with perseverance and passion, we finally opened door this winter of 2021. We also want to thank the wonderful people of this community in Castro Valley and the Bay Area for their encouragement and support. We will keep up the good work and do better each day.
